Description

This was one of the main techniques in the Venetian Renaissance and the façon de Venise glassworks. This technique has never been abandoned in Murano.

A blown object attached to a blow pipe is partially immersed in a crucible so that half of it is covered length-wise by another outside layer of glass. It is then placed in a metal ribbed mould which is imprinted only on the outside layer. By rotating everything, the ribbing can also become spiral-shaped.
