Fusing

This is a very old technique which has nothing to do with blowing. Mosaic glass also uses the fusing techniques.

Sections of glass of different colours can be drawn together on a base of refractory clay or, rather, a ceramic fibre slab and fused in a - generally electric - furnace, so as to obtain a multicoloured glass material (mosaic or Murrina glass).

Different coloured glass fragments or grains are laid out on a slab, even an industrial one. With fusion in a horizontal electric oven, they melt with the base glass support. The operation can be repeated more than once with a superimposition effect of colours and three-dimensional motifs.
