IV. Borosilicate glass

Mario Moretti

Description

This is glass with a high chemical resistance (this is why it is called neutral) and a highly varied composition: it generally contains relatively high quantities of alumina (Al2O3) and boric acid (B2O3). This type of glass is used for the production of containers for medicines (small bottles and phials), for chemical laboratory equipment, to make radioactive waste inert etc.. Because of its property (good thermal expansion), it is heat resistant and is used in oven production (Pyrex glass) or for particular applications.
